Lifeworld Dermatology : New paradigm shift

Contemporary medicine is derived by implicit paradigm that focused on biomedical aspect of the patient body overlooking the cultural \social lived context of the patients. This taken for granted attitude of medical doctors resulted in a dehumanized practice & crisis in doctor - patient relationship. Lifeworld based medicine is going back to the patients themselves as whole person having physical ,psychical ,mental ,spiritual interdependent parts . Phenomenology as  foundation of this lifeworld approach is both philosophy and research paradigm which can offer a radical therapy for this crisis. New concepts about what is like to be human, to be healthy, to be ill is offered by lifeworld phenomenology. 

Habermas  (1971)  established  three  categories  of  human  interest  that  underscore knowledge:  prediction,  understanding  and  emancipation.  The  interest  of  positivism would  be  to predict,  the  interest  of  phenomenology  (as  well  as  of  others  such  as constructivism,  hermeneutic,  etc.)  would be to understand, and the  interest  of  other stances such as feminism, neo-Marxism and critical realism more would be to emancipate .

We are interested in this study to understand the patient lifeworld of living with melasma which can be good example of new medicine in which lifeworld is primary to any theoretical \abstract world. For this reason we choose phenomenology as overarching research paradigm for qualitative research in contrast to the positivism paradigm which is the guiding philosophy of science and quantitative research. Now the study is intended for those need to understand what is like to have skin diseases.In general contemporary medicine is focusing on biomedical aspect of disease overlooking the cultural \social lived context of diseases .

This reductive medical gaze resulted in dehumanized practice & crisis in doctor - patient relationship. Biomechanical medicine is founded on positivism.

To understand lifeworld phenomenology as qualitative research paradigm we need to discuss in detail the philosophical bases of the scientific research as whole , which is the background against it phenomenology can figure out.
